Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot,
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.
Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, 'twas his intent
To blow up the King and Parli'ment.
Three-score barrels of powder below
To prove old England's overthrow;
By God's providence he was catch'd
With a dark lantern and burning match.
Hulloa boys, Hulloa boys, let the bells ring.
Hulloa boys, hulloa boys, God save the King!
Guy Fawkes - the first man to ever enter parliamnent with honest intentions, or a terrorist?
Whatever - a good reason to celebrate with fairground rides, loud music, food, toffee apples (make a mental note to never put your Nikon in the bag with toffee apples, ok?), bonfire, fireworks, late night steam train rides and home to warm apple cider and ginger cake and custard.
I love bonfire night, and I love having children old enough to enjoy it properly too.
Oh, looks like fun!
ReplyDeleteYes, a lot of fun - and just enough fun before fingers froze and temper's frayed - a lovely memory :)
