Work

Working on something... Don't know when it will all be revealed...

Still under development ...

I am always shy to call anything I do 'work'. Work is what real people do - nurses, firemen, office workers, teachers. They do real work and their work is compensated with a wage. Generally anything I do is hit and miss - it sometimes leads to a small income, but mostly it's just a way to stop my brain melting and largely ignored.

So. I am currently 'working' on something which will remain behind the scenes for a long while if all goes well, and forever if it doesn't! I may share snippets, and I may call it 'work'. I always have a plan; if this ever gets near to becoming real you'll be the first to know!

These walls of ours...

A year or so ago I nailed these crates to our sitting room wall for somewhere to display nick-nacks. I really love them, they have a rustic charm and they have turned a large, boring flat space into something more engaging.

But still, there was something missing... Of course, a plethora of prints! And so with the help of arty friends, some of my own images and etsy finds I created our 'seasonal wall' - Images that keep us in tune with the outside when we are in the very heart of our home.

I think it works somehow. A hotch-potch of nick-nacks and granny things with a little modern tweek.

Sometimes, when the boys are busy with their work, or when we are sitting around the table for an afternoon of family art, I sit and play with paint, pens and ink and dream up all manner of doodles in my daydreams.

I have begun to cocoon myself with stones, sticks, journals - in fact, anything that I can paint on, and carve a little work niche for myself in this busy home of ours.

It is important, I think, that we as adults allow ourselves the time to create - to keep that spark of creativity alive within us. It is all too easy to give in to chores and 'important' things and to lose ourselves in the process - to erase who we are and confuse it with what we do.

But to create these pockets of calm, these oasise of crafting and creating is no less important than the other work we undertake each day. If fact, it may be more so - for through our example our children soon follow. Once they see me sit in quiet concentration it isn't long before they too sit and concentrate and make. Maybe not for long, but at least they know that this work of ours, whatever it is, that it is important.

One Day My Prints Will Come...

DSC_0018

Honestly, my jokes don't get a lot better than that, so just humour me, OK?

A few new prints and posters and what-have-you that have found their way into our home these last few weeks...

And whilst this one isn't new to us, it is the first time we have found a space for it.

Love it.

Our New Room :: The Artwork

DSC_0026

Ever since we started working on building this new room I have been squirreling away works of art, prints and inspirational things that I hope will motivate and beautify in equal measure.

DSC_0025

As well as the standard 'educational' posters we have, I also have plans of adding some of my own work to the walls in this space, to hopefully compliment the prints I already have.

It's been fun finding beautiful, handmade things for our new room. I can't wait to get them framed and up on the walls!

It has been such a long wait...
