Lessons in chess

Not to labour the point, but I mentioned we're finding our way here more and more?

Lessons in chess and a battle of minds. I appreciate these calm games after years of daily house-wrecking.

A Time to Knit

Afternoon fun

More and more afternoons are spent here, doing this.

The boys commence marathon checkers and chess sessions, I sit with a cuppa near and knit. The eldest closes the curtains, puts on the lamps, declares 'this is the cosiest room EVER' and settles into the rhythm of s l o w i n g down, remembering the routine that we fall into at this time of year.

Even though I try to hold on to my sanity at this time of year, I have to admit, these afternoons are pretty sweet.

So. It's super hot, the car is all but dead and stuck together with gaffer tape. No beach trips in sight, but that's OK because we're fasting anyway and that doesn't sound like my ideal day out to me. Hoping a car will materialise, and the sun will stay after Ramadan for us to hit the beach this summer *please*.

I haven't picked the DSLR up for a good while. Again. Partly because we haven't really done a great deal and partly because all my attention is on this new work. (Sorry it sounds like I'm teasing you, but I'm really not).

Some snapshots then of daily life recently. The highs, lows and the bits in between.

Stay cool.

I walk in the room, and this is what I see:
Every single blanket is staring at me,
I've got a Midget in the house and he ain't afraid to destroy it, destroy it, destroy it...

We're den-building and I know it...

This Week

Our nature studies have been a bit book-intensive this winter. Car problems have meant we haven't really got out of dodge and stretched our legs properly for a while. The boys are tetchy for some forest time. So is their mama, actually.

Book knowledge can provide only so much, but the mornings we spend out there in it all? Well, it goes deeper and has a bigger impact and provides so much more nutrition.

Hoping for some real open spaces soon.
